Egg storage, how long?

Fresh hen eggs can last about 3-5 weeks in the fridge, depending on storage conditions. If kept at a consistent temperature below 40°F (4°C), they typically stay fresh for around a month from the date of laying. Unrefrigerated, at room temperature, they may only last about 1-2 weeks before quality declines.

To maximise freshness:

  • Store eggs in their carton to maintain humidity and protect from odours.

  • Keep them in the main part of the fridge, not the door, for stable temperature.

  • Check freshness by placing an egg in water: if it sinks, it’s fresh; if it floats, it’s likely bad.
